What actually is a glaze? A full beginner-friendly guide

Glazing comes up in nearly every painting tutorial, but it's rarely explained properly. Rogue Hobbies made this full guide after it topped his viewers' list of questions. He covers what a glaze actually is, how to apply one, using glazes to smooth out blends, adding contrast, and tinting or adding saturation to areas you've already painted. Once glazing clicks, it's a great way to rescue a patchy layer, which makes it a really good next step after basecoats and washes on the 32mm minis we print here at Nebulous Models.

Do you glaze regularly, or is it still on the "one day" list? If you've tried it, what went wrong (or right) the first time?

Wobbly edge highlights? Here's how to practise (and fix them)

Edge highlighting is the technique that makes armour, weapons and hard edges really pop on the tabletop. It's also one of the most common things people say they struggle with. In just over ten minutes, the Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy team show how to practise edge highlights and, just as usefully, how to correct the mistakes when a line goes astray. It's handy whether you're painting a squad of troops or a single D&D hero.

What's your trick for steady edge highlights: brush side, brush tip, or holding your breath? Post your questions below too.

Painting your first mini? This covers the lot

Ninjon takes a model from bare plastic to finished, step by step: cleaning off mould lines, priming, thinning your paints, loading the brush properly, washes for shading and simple highlights. There's even a homemade wet palette using a lid, kitchen roll and baking parchment — dead handy if you're just getting started. The same basics apply whether you're painting plastic kits or the resin 32mm minis we print here at Nebulous Models (superglue for resin joins, plastic cement for plastic).

What was the tip that finally made painting "click" for you? Beginners, ask away below!
